Ingredients
  • Jaggery or honey (adjust to taste) - 1/4 cup
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • A pinch of cardamom powder
  • Dates and Nut Modak is a nutritious and wholesome version of the traditional modak, made with the goodness of dates, nuts, and coconut. Dates serve as a natural sweetener, providing the perfect amount of sweetness without the need for added sugar. The roasted nuts add a delightful crunch and a dose of essential nutrients like protein, healthy fats, and minerals. Dates and Nut Modak is a healthier alternative that not only satisfies sweet cravings but also provides a quick energy boost and nourishment, making it a guilt-free and enjoyable treat for festive celebrations like Ganesh Chaturthi.

    Ingredients: For the Outer Covering:

    1 cup deseeded dates

    1/2 cup roasted nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios)

    1/2 cup grated coconut (optional, for added flavor)

    A pinch of cardamom powder

    Instructions:

    • In a food processor or blender, blend the deseeded dates and roasted nuts until they form a sticky mixture.
    • If using grated coconut, add it to the mixture and blend again.
    • Transfer the dates and nut mixture to a bowl and mix in a pinch of cardamom powder. This will be the outer covering of the modak.
    • In a separate pan, combine grated coconut and jaggery. Cook on low heat until the jaggery melts and mixes well with the coconut. Add a pinch of cardamom powder for flavor.
    • Let the coconut-jaggery mixture cool down to room temperature. This will be the filling for the modak.
    • Take a small portion of the dates and nut mixture and shape it into a small cup-like disc using your fingers.
    • Place a spoonful of the coconut-jaggery filling into the center of the disc.
    • Seal the edges of the disc to enclose the filling and shape it into a modak with a pointed top.
    • Repeat the process with the rest of the dates and nut mixture and filling to make more modaks.
