Helpful Tips For Spaghetti Bolognese
- Tomatoes: For the bolognese sauce, I recommend using ripe, red, sweet, and not overly sour or tangy tomatoes. In place of fresh tomatoes, you can use canned tomatoes or Italian whole tomatoes with juice. Before adding the tomatoes, simply crush them.
- Tomato paste: Though tomato paste adds depth to the sauce, you can omit it if you don’t have any on hand.
- Mushrooms: While I prefer button mushrooms, cremini or shiitake mushrooms can also be used.
- Fresh herbs should be used instead of dried herbs. 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried basil can be used in place of fresh basil.
- Add-ins: To add richness to the dish, add some cream to the sauce. If you prefer, you can grate some vegetarian parmesan cheese. before serving.
- Spiciness: If you are sensitive to pungency or heat, reduce or skip the red chili flakes from the spaghetti bolognese recipe.
