  • Pistachio and chocolate are having a moment, and for good reason. The creamy nuttiness of pistachios pairs beautifully with rich chocolate, but you don’t need a sugar-heavy dessert to enjoy the combination.

This high-protein pistachio chocolate recipe turns those flavours into a creamy, satisfying dessert using Greek yogurt, pistachios, and dark chocolate. It’s quick to prepare, naturally rich in protein and healthy fats, and works well as an evening dessert or post-workout sweet treat.

The best part? You can prepare it in individual portions and keep it chilled for when a chocolate craving hits.

Step-by-Step Method: Make This Creamy Pistachio Chocolate Treat

    Step 1: Prepare the Pistachios

    Add 30 g pistachios to a blender.

    Pulse until finely ground.

Don’t blend for too long, or the nuts can release their oils and turn into pistachio butter.

Keep 1–2 teaspoons of chopped pistachios aside for garnishing.

Step 2: Make the Protein Pistachio Cream

Add the ground pistachios to a bowl.

    Mix in:

    • Greek yogurt or hung curd
    • Protein powder
    • Honey
    • Vanilla extract
    • Chia seeds, if using

Add milk gradually and whisk until smooth and creamy.

The mixture should be thick enough to hold its shape.

Tip: If your protein powder is already sweetened, reduce or skip the honey.

Step 3: Prepare the Chocolate Layer

Break 40 g dark chocolate into small pieces.

Add it to a microwave-safe bowl with 30 ml milk.

Heat in short 15–20 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate melts smoothly.

Alternatively, melt it using a double-boiler method.

Add cocoa powder and protein powder if using.

    Mix thoroughly until smooth.

    Step 4: Build the Dessert

Take two small serving glasses or jars.

Add a layer of pistachio protein cream to the bottom.

    Smooth the surface gently.

Add a layer of the chocolate mixture.

Repeat the layers until the glasses are almost full.

Step 5: Add the Pistachio Crunch

Sprinkle chopped pistachios over the top.

Add a few dark chocolate shavings for extra texture.

A tiny pinch of sea salt can also bring out the chocolate flavour.

    Step 6: Chill Until Creamy

Cover the glasses and refrigerate for 1–2 hours.

This allows the layers to firm up and the pistachio and chocolate flavours to blend.

If you prefer a softer dessert, you can enjoy it after about 30–45 minutes.

    Step 7: Serve

Take the dessert out of the refrigerator and let it sit for a couple of minutes.

    Serve chilled and enjoy.

For an even more indulgent version, add a few fresh berries or sliced banana on top.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Make This Pistachio Chocolate Recipe Without Protein Powder?

Yes. Greek yogurt and pistachios already provide protein. The protein powder simply increases the protein content.

    Can I Use Regular Curd?

Yes. Strain regular curd in a muslin cloth for a few hours to make it thicker and creamier.

Which Chocolate Is Best For This Recipe?

Dark chocolate with around 70% cocoa or higher works well because it provides a richer chocolate flavour without making the dessert overly sweet.

Can I Make This Recipe Without Honey?

Yes. If your protein powder is sweetened, you may not need additional sweetener. You can also use mashed banana or dates for natural sweetness.

Can I Prepare This Dessert In Advance?

Yes. Keep it covered and refrigerated for up to 2 days. Add the pistachio topping just before serving for a better crunch.
