GFR Calculator

The GFR Calculator helps estimate your Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR), a key indicator of kidney function. By analyzing factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, and serum creatinine levels, this tool identifies potential risks for kidney disease and monitors kidney health effectively.

eGFR results

CKD-EPI (2009) -

MDRD -

eGFR mL/min/1.73m² Kidney function
≥90 Normal
60-89 Mildly decreased
45-59 Mildly to moderately decreased
30-44 Moderately to severely decreased
15-29 Severely decreased
<15 Kidney failure

How to Use the Calculator

To calculate your eGFR:

  • Input Required Measurements:
    • Marker: Serum creatinine or Serum cystatin levels.
    • Age: Provide your current age.
    • Sex: Male or female.
    • Ethnicity: Specify your descent.
    • Serum Creatinine (mg/dL): Enter your blood test results.
  • Click on Calculate to view results using various eGFR equations.

What’s a Healthy or Unhealthy Range?

eGFR (mL/min/1.73m²) Kidney Function
≥90 Normal
60-89 Mildly decreased
45-59 Mildly to moderately decreased
30-44 Moderately to severely decreased
15-29 Severely decreased
15 More Kidney failure

Results below 60 may indicate kidney disease, while results under 15 often suggest kidney failure

What is eGFR?

The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) measures kidney function and assesses the risk of kidney disease based on your blood test results. It accounts for creatinine and/or cystatin C levels, age, sex, and ethnicity.

How to Calculate GFR?

The calculator uses four widely accepted equations:

  • CKD-EPI Creatinine Equation (2009) – Recommended for routine use.
  • CKD-EPI Creatinine-Cystatin Equation (2012) – Offers improved accuracy for extreme muscle mass/diet cases.
  • CKD-EPI Cystatin C Equation (2012) – Suitable for unstable creatinine levels or pregnancy.
  • MDRD Study Equation – An alternative for patients aged 18-70 with common kidney disease causes.

How to Calculate GFR?

  • Early Detection:
    • Monitor blood pressure and sugar levels.
    • Regularly check eGFR and urine albumin levels.
  • Management Strategies:
    • Control diabetes and hypertension.
    • Follow a kidney-friendly diet.
    • Consult a nephrologist for tailored treatment.
  • Advanced Stages:
    • Dialysis: Cleanses the blood of toxins.
    • Kidney Transplant: Offers long-term relief in severe cases.

By regularly using the GFR calculator, you can proactively manage and maintain kidney health.

Why Use This Calculator?

  • Early Detection: Identify signs of kidney disease before symptoms appear.
  • Track Kidney Health: Monitor the progression of kidney conditions.
  • Customizable Results: Compare results using different equations for accuracy.
  • Patient Awareness: Empower patients with a better understanding of their kidney health.
