AHI Calculator | Apnea-Hypopnea Index

The Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) is a key metric for diagnosing and assessing the severity of sleep apnea. It represents the average number of apnea (breathing stops) and hypopnea (shallow breathing) episodes per hour of sleep. Monitoring your AHI is crucial for understanding sleep health and optimizing treatments like CPAP therapy.

How to Use the Calculator

  • Input the following measurements:
    • Apnea Episodes: Total number of apnea events during sleep.
    • Hypopnea Episodes: Total number of hypopnea events during sleep.
    • Actual Sleep Time (in hours): The total hours of sleep recorded.
  • The calculator will compute your AHI using the formula:
AHI= (Apnea Episodes + Hypopnea Episodes)/ Actual Sleep Time (hours)

Healthy AHI Range

  • Normal: Less than 5 events/hour
  • Mild Sleep Apnea: 5–15 events/hour
  • Moderate Sleep Apnea: 15–30 events/hour
  • Severe Sleep Apnea: More than 30 events/hour

An AHI of 5 or above suggests sleep apnea and may require medical intervention. Persistent high AHI values can lead to severe health risks

Why Use This Calculator?

  • NormEarly Diagnosisal: Detect sleep apnea and its severity.
  • Treatment Optimization: Evaluate the effectiveness of CPAP or other therapies.
  • Prevent Health Risks: Reduce the chances of complications like hypertension, stroke, or heart disease.
  • Improve Sleep Quality: Address breathing disruptions for better restorative sleep.
