How to Use the Calculator

  • Prepare Measurements: Gather the following details before starting:
    • Age and Sex: Select your age group and gender as they influence body fat standards.
    • Height: Measure your height without shoes, standing straight against a wall.
    • Neck Circumference: Measure just below the larynx (Adam’s apple).
    • Waist Circumference::
      • For men: Measure at the navel level.
      • For women: Measure at the narrowest part of the abdomen.
    • Hip Circumference (Females Only): Measure at the widest point of the hips or buttocks.
  • Enter Data: Input the above measurements into the calculator to compute your body fat percentage.
  • Results: The calculator applies formulas specified in the Army Body Composition Program to provide your body fat percentage.

What’s a Healthy Range or Unhealthy Range?

According to U.S. Army standards, the following body fat percentage ranges apply:

21-27 22% or lower 32% or lower
28-39 24% or lower 34% or lower
40+ 26% or lower 36% or lower
  • Healthy Body Fat %: Body fat percentages within the above ranges are considered healthy for military personnel.
  • Unhealthy Body Fat %: TIf your body fat exceeds the U.S. Army's standards for your age and sex, it may indicate the need for dietary or fitness adjustments.
