AUDIT-C Calculator

The AUDIT-C Calculator is a concise and effective tool designed to help individuals assess their drinking habits and identify potential risks associated with alcohol consumption. It is a simplified version of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and is widely used in healthcare settings to screen for hazardous drinking patterns and alcohol use disorders.

How to Use the AUDIT-C Calculator

Using the AUDIT-C Calculator is simple and requires honest responses to three questions:

  • How often do you have a drink containing alcohol?: Choose from options ranging from "Never" to "2-3 times a week or more."
  • How many units of alcohol do you consume on a typical drinking day?: Enter the number of units you usually consume.
  • How often do you have six or more units on one occasion?: Select a frequency, such as "Never," "Less than monthly," or "Weekly."

The calculator automatically assigns points to your answers and sums them up to provide your AUDIT-C score.

What’s a Healthy or Unhealthy Range?

Your AUDIT-C score helps determine your level of risk:

Score Risk Level Interpretation
0–3 Low Risk Drinking habits are within normal limits. Maintain your current level to minimize health risks.
4–5 Moderate Risk Indicates potential for future harm. Monitor your habits and consider reducing consumption.
6–7 High Risk Suggests alcohol misuse. This includes hazardous drinking or dependence. Seek professional advice.
8+ Severe Risk Signals severe alcohol misuse. Immediate professional intervention is strongly recommended.

Why Use This Calculator?

  • YSelf-Awareness: Helps you evaluate your drinking patterns and their impact on your health.
  • Early Intervention: Identifies hazardous drinking before it leads to severe health issues like liver damage or alcohol dependence.
  • Healthcare Application: A valuable tool for healthcare professionals to screen patients, especially those in at-risk groups (e.g., college students, pregnant women).
  • Accessibility: Simple and quick, making it easy to incorporate into routine self-assessments or medical screenings.

General Guidelines for Alcohol Consumption

  • YSelf-Awareness:
    • Men: No more than 14 standard drinks per week.
    • Women: No more than 7 standard drinks per week.
